Sacristan

"Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions."
Matthew 24: 45-47
A very rewarding ministry, the sacristan assists the priest by setting up the Sacristy and Altar with the necessary items in preparation for the celebration of Mass.

It is the Sacristan’s role to make sure certain aspects of parish liturgy are attended to.  In so doing, the Sacristan helps to create a prayerful liturgy for the community, and most importantly frees the priest to give his attention to the prayer and pastoral care of the parishioners.

The various duties of a sacristan are:
  • turning on of lights, sound system, baptismal font, etc.
  • readying of the chalices and communion bowls
  • prepare the credence table
  • gather gifts for offertory
  • putting out of announcement, prayers of the faithful sheets
  • change lighting scenes as Mass progresses
  • find alternates for various ministries if scheduled person does not show
  • clean Sacristy before leaving

It is a great privilege and honor to serve the Lord and the church in this ministry.
This ministry is open to all who are interested.  Please call the Parish Office at 403-381-8891.
